In Philippines, Freyssinet and Terre Arm\u00e9e joined forces to the construction of the Mactan-Cebu Airport Terminal 2<\/h2>\n

Located 800<\/strong> km south of the capital of the Philippines, in the city of Cebu<\/strong>, a growing tourist destination, Terminal 2<\/strong> was achieved and inaugurated in July 2018<\/strong>. Launched in 2015, the project aimed to sustainably cope with the steadily increasing number of passengers, from 4.5<\/strong> million currently to 12.5<\/strong> million annually, and increase<\/strong> the number of international flights.<\/p>\n

In charge of the works,\u00a0GMCAC<\/strong>, the joint venture between GMR Infrastructure Ltd. of India, and one of the major Philippine constructors, Megawide Construction Corp. (MCC) chose\u00a0Freyssinet<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Terre Arm\u00e9e<\/strong>\u00a0to take part in the works. Started in 2017, the missions included the design work of\u00a0MSE<\/strong>\u00a0wall structures, the\u00a0supply<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0moulds<\/strong>, materials and accessories, the\u00a0casting<\/strong>\u00a0of panels at site and the\u00a0erection<\/strong>\u00a0of the walls.<\/p>\n

Freyssinet and Reinforced Earth worked together to offer the Owner an alternative solution to build the Terminal 2 elevated\u00a0approach road<\/strong>. \u00a0Reinforced Earth\u00ae technology was preferred to initial traditional cast-in-situ retaining walls. A total of\u00a07<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0MSE walls structures were built and a\u00a0true abutment<\/strong>\u00a0that will remain in history as the very\u00a0first<\/strong>\u00a0of its kind in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

In addition, some\u00a0value engineering<\/strong>\u00a0was done to bring additional savings in time and money to the Client. For example, a traditional Aashto girders span structure was eventually built with\u00a0Reinforced Earth\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0wall structure using\u00a0\u00a02,160 m\u00b2<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0MSE walls<\/strong>, and reaching a maximum of\u00a08<\/strong>\u00a0meters tall.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the first experience with\u00a0MSE walls<\/strong>\u00a0for the client in the Philippines. The experience was a\u00a0success\u00a0for all stakeholders and they look forward to have the same collaboration on their next\u00a0airport project in Manila<\/strong>\u00a0(Clark Airport).
